HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THE Session?

The best advice is to have a good nights rest and to look after your body and mind! Take a shower or bath before coming and be at your best. It’s important to arrive bright eyed and bushy tailed. Place some cheerful music and be in a positive frame of mind. Avoid alcohol the night before and invest in some self care to ensure that you can get the best version of yourself in stills!

HAIR & Makeup

Hair:

Generally for women, wearing their hair down looks better. It would be helpful that you blow-dry your hair and that you do not have any stray hairs as it can be difficult to edit. To avoid fly aways it is helpful to bring a clear mascara or some light hair gel with you.

If you are concerned about your hair roots showing, it would be helpful to colour your hair a few days before so it sets in on the day. If you do not have time for this, then temporary hair colour spray can be your friend. As editing roots and fly aways can incur a large cost on top of your photos.

For men, I would suggest that you also make sure that you do not have frizzy hair, lightly waxed or gelled can also look more attractive. If you have long hair, perhaps you could try different looks, with some shots having you in a pony tale and others with your hair down.

Nails:

Good nail care is important and shows up in your pictures. Also it will incur extra editing cost and it is not always easy to fix nails on photoshop. Why don’t you pamper yourself and get a full make over before you come to your session. This day is meant to be all about you!

Makeup:

The make up will depend on the look that we will be shooting and this will be discussed in the consultation beforehand. An elegant look will always appear timeless. If you are not having your makeup done, there are plenty of helpful makeup tutorials on youtube from people alike Charlotte Tilbury to Mac to Chanel and so on. It would be helpful if you bring your make up with you for a touch up. Please also use powder to make sure that your face does not have any shine. I would also suggest a nice eye liner to bring out the colour of your eyes. Please be wary of smudging and you can retouch at the set if need be.

However if you are having headshots taken, its more helpful to have a more neutral look for as you would not be sure what would attract your potential employees.

Beard for men:

It would look better if you have a clean look, whether shaved, with stubble or a beard. You could also bring your shaving equipment with you and perhaps try two different looks, with or without stubble, depending on if you have headshots in mind.

WHAT DO I WEAR?

Fitting:

Clothing that fits and is not too baggy looks more flattering on the individuals. Please make sure that whatever your outfit is, it is ironed and looks clean and spectacular for the day.

No Wrinkles:

This is the most basic rule, as wrinkles make it very difficult to edit your photos. They also make you look scruffy and unprofessional.

Layers:

I am not too fussed about you wearing layers as sometimes one layer is enough and can look cutting edge, but depending on what you wear layers can add dimensions to your photo. You can add or take layers away to give you more looks.

V-necks:

V-neck shirts can be very flattering as they elongate the neck.

Jewellery :

This will work for portraits but not headshots. You can bring a few items along and we can see if it suites your outfit.

Glasses:

Glasses can be distracting specially because of reflections and lighting, I would suggest contacts if possible. Although if you are used to your look with glasses and that is what you are trying to convey, it is very important that you clean them before the shoot, or to make it easier, to remove the lenses altogether and to wear contacts simultaneously.

Colour:

Colour plays an important part on your complextion. Keep in mind, that certain colours sell certain images and are often associated with different moods and feelings. I suggest that you do not wear clothing which is too close to the colour of your skin. The difference in tones in colours also suggest certain moods, for example; Warm tones : Approachable / friendly, Cool tones: distant or aloof / cutting edge. I would ask you to essentially bring three different looks to the shoot so we can try a variation.

Portraits:

Clothes for Portraits can vary depending on what you are looking for, the season and your particular style. We will discuss this in the consultation. We will work together on specific ‘looks’ before the shoot. My style works towards high end fashion and a luxurious feel. Although we can share Pinterest looks to develop a specific style before you come.

Headshots:

Anything that distracts from the face should be avoided. For Headshots it is important that you do not have any patterns / Logos/ illustrations or Graphics on your clothing this makes it less distracting and easier to edit. Neutral colours are always best. Avoid being too casual, but it all depends on what you want the headshots for. Sleeves can be of help to your look and be more flattering, as too much skin can distract from your face. Please also avoid wearing jewellery as the main focus should be your own jewels - which is your eyes! Please make sure that your clothing is not see through specially when flash photography is involved. Make up should usually be neutral and please try to make sure that you take the shine away from your face as it helps with the reflection of your complexion.

Children:

I love photographing children and I know how difficult it can be to keep their attention. I suggest that you bring a few props along in the form of toys or things that make them comfortable.
